Clean Your Air Conditioner and Save Money!

A dirty air conditioner is costing you money! Not only does it use more energy to cool your home, but it also shortens its lifespan. Fortunately, maintaining your unit is simple and quick. Here are some tips to clean your air conditioner and optimize its performance.

Safety First!

  1. Turn off the system from the indoor thermostat.
  2. Locate your main electrical panel and switch off the breaker dedicated to your air conditioner.

Cleaning the Outdoor Unit

  1. Check the top of the unit. If it’s dirty, use a mild detergent (like dish soap) diluted in water. Avoid abrasive products.
  2. Clean the surface with a damp cloth. Clean the internal fins (located behind the grille). CAUTION: Make sure the air conditioner breaker is turned off.
    • Remove the protective grille with a screwdriver.
    • Use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to clean the fins. Vacuum from top to bottom to avoid bending them. Don’t press too hard—let the vacuum do the work.

By following these quick and simple steps, you’ll help extend the lifespan and efficiency of your air conditioner while saving energy.
